back to Medicare eligibility

Medicare does not pay for medical services you receive outside the United States.
Medigap policies C through J have a foreign travel benefit for medically necessary emergency care that would have been covered by Medicare in the United States. This benefit is for short-term travel outside the United States. This benefit pays 80% of medically necessary emergency care during the first 60 days you are out of the United States, after a $250 deductible. The lifetime maximum benefit is $50,000. These policies will not pay benefits if you live or travel outside the United States for longer than 60 days.

If you have retiree coverage, check with your benefits administrator to find out if you have coverage outside the United States.

If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, contact the MA plan to find out whether you have coverage outside the United States.
